Baby FoodE - Michele

Hello, my name is Michele, and I am a complete control freak - which I am working on, thank you very much. I am also a lover of food, of course.

I wish I could tell you I always planned to make baby food for my first child, but that would be a lie. I did plan to give my little one only the best, which is why I purchased three different brands of organic apple puree to conduct my own quality control.

I tasted each one.
I threw away each one.

Okay, I tossed the jars in the recycling bin. But the point is my love of food made it very clear that what I'd just eaten was not food as I knew it. And I certainly didn't want this to by my daughter's first experience with what the food world had to offer.

I went to the market, grabbed pounds of fresh organic fruits, vegetables, spices and herbs. Fittingly, my first acts of frenzied baby food making took place at my own mother's house. We started off with simple recipes based on the produce in season. Because my goal was to make purees that tasted better then just "good" - they had to be amazing - I added pinches of spices and herbs to enhance the natural flavors of the produce: apples with cinnamon, sweet potatoes with rosemary and carrots with nutmeg. The result was over 800 ounces - yes, you read that correctly - of flavorful, delicious purees. We're talking about half a year's worth of purees. Can anyone say borderline obsessive?

My baby ate them, my husband and I ate them. It was puree heaven for all of us.

Thus began a truly life-chaging experience: making baby food for Ellie. More than a hobby, it became my mission, and something I relized I could - and should - share with other parents who hoped to raise children on the full flavors of fresh foods. Not long after I began creating and testing recipes, I started a blog about them. My "Baby Food for Ellie" concept got shortened to simply "Baby FoodE," and my online recipe home is now fully established. And sure enough, a little foodie is just what Ellie (now an older sister to baby Parker) has become.

I came to discover it doesn't take that much time or energy to make your baby a foodie - or future foodie, as the case may be. All you really need is a couple of hours each month and a passion to give your baby the very best.

Can't get enough? I have also written three books over the last year to help you along the way - Little Foodie, Little Bento (releases 08/09/2016) and Whole Food Baby (releases 9/01/16) as well as several e-books

I currently live in Denver, Colorado with my loving hubby and two daughters (Elliette and Parker). You can read more about my craziness here or Parker's birth story here. I am also on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. You can also email me at any time.

Meet The Team

Along the way, I have met a ton of other parents, who just like me wanted to make delicious food for their babies. I am lucky enough that some of them even wanted to contritute to this site!
