Mango, Apple + Dried Cherry Baby Food Puree

Is it just me, or do all mamas walk around and randomly start reciting children’s books in our heads? Just me, okay just checking.

This reciting started with Hungry Little Caterpillar, then moved to The Going to Bed Book and now I am on to Hug Time. It happens when I least expect it and in the most random locations – taking a shower, signing in the car, grocery shopping. It is almost like going to my happy place except that if reciting children’s book in my head [and out loud] is my happy place then I need some serious help.

Mango, apples and cherries spread out on a white board.

Time to find a new happy place. A new happy song or dance. Something maybe a little more grown-up.

This puree is another thing that will take you to your happy place, wherever that is. It is sweet enough with a pinch of tart to keep you on your toes. Loaded with Vitamin A, C and B and a ton of carotenoids from the Mangos and calcium from the cherries, this puree is a like a special treat with double dose of healthy nutrients.

This puree can be made without any extra energy and in less then 15 minutes. Which should leave you plenty of time to read and memorize another kids book.

This puree would be amazing paired with:

  • Greek Yogurt, Cottage Cheese or Ricotta
  • leftover Quinoa
  • spooned into a blender with ice and a splash of milk for a healthy toddler smoothie
  • mixed with a spinach or green puree and spooned into a reusable pouch for a great on-the-go snacking

  • Meanwhile, in a small bowl add the cherries and cover with hot water. Let sit for 10 minutes.
  • Transfer the mango, apples and drained cherris to a blender or food processor and puree for 1-2 minutes or until you have reached your desired consistency, adding extra water in tbsp increments if needed.

Notes

Age: 6+ months
Yield: makes roughly 25 ounces
Note on Cherries: you can easily use fresh or frozen cherries in this recipe. Sub in 1/4 cup of cherries and cook during step one.
