Let's me just say that there is a major addiction going on in our house and this week I am finally doing something about it. The addiction is to refined sugar. Oh sugar, the thing that makes everything taste like heaven. Don't get me wrong I believe that sugar is fine in small amounts and moderation but after little E's Birthday, 5 of her friends Birthday parties and Mothers Day, our usual sugar and sweets moderation has turned into a routine occurrence at our house.
So this week, we are detoxing from all refined sugar, and I think it is safe to say that I am having a harder time then the little one is.
With her in mind, I made this power-house puree to ease this difficult transition. This puree is full of nutrient dense super greens that have high levels of fiber, vitamin C and iron which aid in detoxification and help to strengthen the immune system and dried prunes that help with digestion. A perfect combination of slightly sweet and extremely nutritious, this puree will be a hit regardless if you are detoxing or not.
Pear + Baby Super Greens + Prunes
2 Organic Pears [I used Bosc]
1-2 cups Organic Baby Super Greens, you can also use Kale, Spinach or Chard
1/2 cup Organic Dried Prunes
Wash pears and baby super greens. Cut core off of pears and place in medium sauce pan. Add 1/3 cup of water. Place greens lightly on top, this will make them get steamed. 2 cups of super greens will get you a very strong kale flavor, if that is too much for your little one, start off with 1 cup and go up from there. Do not mix. Heat on medium for 10 minutes. Meanwhile, place dried prunes in small bowl and cover with boiling water. Let soak for 10 minutes.
Add pears, greens and prunes into blender and blend until you achieve desired consistency.
Makes roughly 20 ounces. Will last 4 days in the fridge or 2 months in the freezer.
