Perfect Egg Yolk for Baby

Perfect Egg Yolk for Baby

June 16, 2014

I talk a lot about the importance of the egg yolk as one of babies first foods, but was surprised when I didn't even have a recipe on how to make the perfect egg yolk for baby.

So here it is.

Easy.

Simple.

Perfectly hard and not too runny.

When I was first starting to feed baby E, egg yolks were one of those foods that sounded completely crazy to give her for one of her first foods. On top of that, I heard that after baby got accustomed to the egg yolk that you can mix it with avocado or liver for an extra healthy meal. I was dumbfounded, and shocked. This was like nothing I had ever heard before. Of course, stubborn as I am, I really didn't believe anyone until I dug around and did some more research.

Turns out egg yolks are amazing for your little one.

End of story.

No hours of research needed.

Egg Yolks are filled with good cholesterol for mental development, important sulphur-containing amino acids and are rich in omega-3 fatty acids that are essential for the development of the brain. And according to Westen A. Price Foundation, Parents who institute the practice of feeding egg yolk to baby will be rewarded with children who speak and take directions at an early age.

All of that in one little yellow ball of goodness.

Turns out, little baby E devoured them. With avocado and all!

Perfect Egg Yolk for Baby

8 organic eggs (or any amount you desire)
1 teaspoon baking soda

Instructions
1. Place eggs in a single layer in saucepan. Cover with cold water by 1 inch and add baking soda. Over medium heat, slowly bring to a boil. When you have reached a boil, cover and remove from heat. Let sit for 10 minutes.
2. With a slotted spoon, transfer eggs to a medium bowl filled halfway with ice and water, this will stop them from cooking any longer. Let cool for at least 5 minutes and then transfer the eggs to a towel to dry. Peel and scoop out egg yolk.
3. You can serve the egg yolk to your baby whole or smash with a fork for a baby food puree.

UPDATE: there has been some recents studies that show that giving baby the egg white (which was once regarded as a big no due to allergies) actually helps baby advert egg allergies later on in life. If there are any egg allergies in the family, skip the egg white and only feed baby the egg yolk.

Can be eaten right away, or store in the fridge in a covered container for up to a week.
