Getting your toddler to eat spinach or kale (or anything green) can be a serious challenge for most parents.

Both of my girls would happily eat any green puree when they were babies, but when they turned one all green foods were off the table (literally). It was as if their beloved apple + green bean + broccoli puree was suddenly poison.

The good thing was that my girls, as well as most kids, love smoothies.

I started adding in handfuls of spinach and kale into their favorite smoothies to see what their reaction would be. And funny enough, they had no reaction at all. They just kept sucking away on their straws like always.

On the other hand, I was all like πŸ™ŒπŸΌπŸ’ƒπŸ»πŸ’šπŸ˜»πŸ‘ŠπŸΌ

Over the years, these are the 3 smoothies that I turn to over and over again because I know that the girls will slurp them down within a matter of minutes. These smoothies also don't hide the fact that they are green. Which I like because I want to show them that green food doesn't equal poison. If your little one is going through a picky phase and needs a little help with eating or drinking something green, I find that by pouring the green smoothies into different colored sippy cups (this one is our favorite) helps disguise the fact that the smoothie is actually green.

While you can make these delicious smoothies right on-the-spot for instant gratification, you can also prep a couple servings in baggies and have frozen freezer smoothie packs that will be ready for you when you are in a rush.

Whether you blend one up now or later, these green smoothies are going to be a winner with your little ones!

Tropical Green Smoothie

A fresh green smoothie that almost makes you feel like you are on a sandy beach reading a good book without the kiddos around, almost! Packed with protein, zinc, potassium, calcium and a ton of omega-3 fatty acids, this smoothie is loaded with both taste and nutrients and will be a guaranteed winner with the little ones!

For Freezer Pack
1 cup fresh spinach, roughly chopped
1 cup fresh or frozen pineapple chunks
1/2 banana, roughly chopped
1 tablespoon shredded coconut
1 teaspoon chia seeds
1 cup almond milk (or milk of choice)
1-2 teaspoons honey (or maple syrup for babies under 1 year of age)

Make-Ahead Freezer Pack Instructions
1. To make freezer packs - place the spinach, pineapple chunks, banana, shredded coconut and chia seeds into a ziplock baggie. Press out all of the air and seal. On the outside of the ziplock baggie make sure to label the smoothie flavor and what you need to add into the blender along with the smoothie contents. Freeze overnight or for up to 6 months.
2. To make smoothie - take out the freezer pack and let sit on counter for 5-10 minutes. Then add all the contents of baggie to a blender as well as the almond milk and honey. Depending on how thin your little one likes their smoothies you may need to add a couple more tablespoons of milk to the smoothie while blending. Blend for 1-2 minutes on high speed until completely smooth.

On-The-Spot Smoothie Instructions
1. If you want the smoothie right now, add the spinach, pineapple chunks, banana, shredded coconut, chia seeds, almond milk, honey and 1/2 cup ice cubes to a blender and blend until smooth. Serve immediately for best results.

Chia Seeds - you can usually find chia seeds in the bulk or nut aisle of your grocery store, or you can get my favorite brand here

Peanut Butter Spinach Smoothie

I am not even kidding when I say this smoothie tastes just like a peanut butter milkshake! If you have a kiddo that is adverse to anything and everything green, then pour this smoothie into a colored sippy cup and let them drink away at it. It's up to you whether or not you let them on to your secret that they just polished off a serving of something green;)
If your have a peanut allergy, you can sub in almond or seed butter into this recipe for similar results.

For Freezer Pack
1 cup fresh spinach, roughly chopped
1 banana, roughly chopped
1 tablespoon peanut butter (can sub in almond or seed butter)
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon flax seeds

When paired with peaches for sweetness, a banana for creaminess and cinnamon for a dash of flavor, this smoothie will be sure to be a winner for any age. It's also filled with protein, iron, vitamin K, potassium and omega-3 fatty acids and will keep your little one full all morning.
