Super Greens + Prunes Baby Food Puree
Let’s me just say that there is a major addiction going on in our house and this week I am finally doing something about it.
The addiction is to refined sugar. Oh sugar, the thing that makes everything taste like heaven. Don’t get me wrong I believe that sugar is fine in small amounts and moderation but after little E’s Birthday, 5 of her friends Birthday parties and Mothers Day, our usual sugar and sweets moderation has turned into a routine occurrence at our house.
So this week, we are detoxing from all refined sugar, and I think it is safe to say that I am having a harder time then the little one is.
With her in mind, I made this power-house puree to ease this difficult transition. This puree is full of nutrient dense super greens that have high levels of fiber, vitamin C and iron which aid in detoxification and help to strengthen the immune system and dried prunes that help with digestion. A perfect combination of slightly sweet and extremely nutritious, this puree will be a hit regardless if you are detoxing or not.

I made this yesterday for my 7 month old, Preston. He absolutely loved it! Unfortunately, about two hours later, he threw it all up. Since he’d already tried prunes and pears with no problems, I’m to assume he reacted to the kale. Have you ever heard of having an intolerance to kale?
Hello Eliza,
Poor little guy! I hope he is feeling better.
Kale is a hypoallergenic food (http://www.healwithfood.org/articles/what-are-hypoallergenic-foods.php) which means that it has very low chance of causing allergic reactions. But that doesn’t mean he can’t be allergic to it. Kale is also not on the list for delayed allergy reactions, so most likely if he was allergic to kale the symptoms would have shown up faster. I would say that it is more likely that his body was just not ready for such a strong leafy green. Kale is one food that some people say you can introduce at 6 months and others say to wait until 8-10 months. I would freeze what you made (don’t want that yummy puree to go to waste) and try to introduce it to him in another couple of weeks and see how he handles it. Making sure to give it to him in the afternoon so you can watch for symptoms. If he still has the same reaction, I would wait until he is 10 months and try again. If this reaction continues then I would talk to your doctor about it. Chances are his system will be more developed and he will be gobbling up all the kale you make for him by then 🙂
Hope this helps!
XOXO
Michele

baby’s first multi-food puree. she loved it! I was a little skeptical when the brown mixture came out of my vitamix but it smelled great! and it tastes kind of like a healthy fruit roll up! I maybe have the hungriest baby in the world, but I think she just loves this recipe
I had the same look when I first made this, but it’s kinda like a green smoothie, frighting at first glance but super good when you get the guts to try it! Glad your little one loved it!!!!!:)

If I were to use frozen spinach how much do you think I should put in?
Hoping the little one likes this combination. Also, your site is great!
Thanks for being here!
I would use 1/2 cup of frozen greens and add in more if needed.
Hi there,
I’m interested in trying this, but what are baby super greens? Is this a product already made?
Thanks!
It’s just a combination of lettuce sold in the grocery store. You can also use baby spinach or kale:)
